Urfa, Turkey− The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) deprived Haitham Hana Cholaq of his house in Tel Abyad city after finding out that he was a Christian.

Cholaq stated to ARA News that five armed members of the ISIL came to his house in the 6th of January demanding him to allow the group to station their sniper at the roof of his house during the clashes which occurred between the ISIL and rebels of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) units. As they found out that the owner of the house was Christian, they intended to take it away from him.

Cholaq added that he stayed in Ba’r al-Temah town (near Tel Abyad) for 20 days, and that he repeatedly resorted to the recently established Sharia Board of the ISIL, asking them to return his house, but they let him know that his house was taken by members of ISIL “because he is an infidel”.

Cholaq was then forced to leave the area and cross the borders into Turkey, escaping al-Qaeda affiliated ISIL.

“A Saudi member of ISIL threatened me of losing my property and life if I won’t convert to Islam,” Cholaq told ARA News.

After capturing the city of Raqqa in northern Syria, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has recently seized the Armenian Church of al-Shuhada (Martyrs Church) in the city and turned it into an advocacy office, as well as turning the Sayidat al-Bishara Church (Church of our Lady of the Annunciation) into an ISIL-led administrative office in Raqqa, basically to reinforce Sharia (Islamic Law) and strengthen the groups’ fist on the city and its surroundings.
