Aleppo, Syria− The Syrian regime forces continued its military operations against fighters of the armed opposition in the northern suburb of Hama city for the second week, in an effort to regain control over Mork city. Several casualties in the ranks of the armed opposition were reported.

Mork is considered a strategic area for the pro-regime military forces. It serves as a military supply route which connects southern areas to Wadi al-Daif military base near Idlib.

A member of the media office in Hama told ARA News that fierce clashes erupted between the regime forces and fighters of al-Nusra Front, the Islamic Front and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) near al-Buydda village near Mork city, resulting in the death of three FSA fighters and the injury of several others.

“The regime forces targeted the area with shells by using heavy artillery stationed at a pro-Assad nearby checkpoints, which resulted in the injury of several members of the armed opposition and large damage in residential buildings,” the source said.

Meanwhile, five civilians were killed and others injured in the city of al-Latamna in Hama’s countryside, as the city was exposed to bombardment by the Syrian air force which dropped explosive barrels on residential neighbourhoods in the city, beside artillery shelling by the regime military forces.

On the other hand, the opposition forces have reportedly received military reinforcements to continue the fight in the cities of Mork and Soran, while the regime mobilizes its forces as a prelude to a major military operation. Amid the escalating violence in the area, hundreds of families escaped their houses and resorted to other relatively safe areas near Hama and villages in the countryside of Idlib city, north Syria.
