Istanbul, Turkey – Jordanian Royal Army sent military reinforcements to the borderline with Syria and Iraq, Jordanian officials said on Wednesday.
Jordanian army commander Gen. Meshal al-Zain said that the reinforcements include “heavy and advanced weapons to raise the efficiency of the forces deployed on the border with Syria and Iraq”.
He pointed out that Syrian and Iraqi borders go through a security vacuum as a result of the ongoing conflict in both neighboring countries.
These reinforcements came after two days of the Jordanian security services repelling a terrorist attack and the arrest of the suspects, who were reportedly linked to al-Quds Corps Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
Jordanian army forces have been deployed at the Syrian border since more than two years to preserve Jordanian territories against terrorist attacks and to prevent illegal crossing from the Syrian side.
A few months ago, the Syrian armed opposition groups and some Islamic factions have seized control of Nasib border crossing, the largest and last crossing held by the Syrian regime at the Jordanian border.
The Jordanian-Syrian border stretch for more than 375 kilometers.
