Kobane, Syria – On Friday, clashes renewed between Kurdish fighters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and militants of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) in the town of Sirrin south Kobane, military sources reported.

Speaking to ARA News in Sarrin, YPG fighter Noureddin Gaban said that an IS-linked sleeper cell in Sirrin attacked Friday checkpoints of the YPG forces in the northern part of the town.

The YPG’s General Command in Kobane told ARA News that an IS-led offensive on the town of Sirrin “was thwarted by our units.”

“We killed dozens of IS terrorists who were launching a revenge attack on Sirrin after we (YPG) regained the town.”

“During the anti-IS battles, seven of our bravest fighters have joined the convoy of martyrs,” the YPG’s General Command added.

Also on Friday, Turkish warplanes launched sorties above Kobane, in conjunction with the IS-led attack on the town of Sirrin.

“Turkey should disclose the cause and purpose of its raids above Kobane,” leadership of the YPG told ARA News. “Turkish warplanes attacked one of our headquarters in the countryside of Kobane earlier this week. Such attacks enable IS terrorists to return to our areas.”
