DARAA – At least 20 civilians were killed and 15 wounded in renewed barrel bomb attacks by forces loyal to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the southern province of Daraa, local sources said on Thursday.
“Syrian regime helicopters dropped more than five barrel bombs on the town of Busra al-Sham in Daraa countryside on Thursday evening, killing 20 civilians and injuring more than 15 others,” civil rights activist Ahmed Hammam told ARA News.
“The victims included three children and five women,” the source added.
“This is only an initial death toll, as activists are still searching for victims under the rabble of the bombed buildings,” said Hammam.
The ancient Syrian town of Busra al-Sham has been under the control of anti-Assad rebel forces since March.
The Syrian conflict has claimed lives of more than 250,000 people and displaced millions since its outbreak in 2011.
